Last Days
Genesis 49:1 And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days
Jacob is going to bless his children in the order of birth, by characteristics or their natures.
Ruben: was unstable due to a sexual transgression and was wavered.
Simeon and Levi: Their strength must be limited because of their deceitful methods, thus strong but limited to rule, because of ruthlessness to defend.
These are the foundations of Israel (to rule as God) are found. God through Jacob pronounces a curse to a government that runs contrary to justice and morality, even if it is intended for the common good.
Judah: Your hand will sit upon the neck of your enemies. Not the sword but your own natural authority. (Unknowingly Hirsch in his description of Judah is also describing the ministry of Yahushua. ) Lets look at Genesis 49:10-11 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. 11Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes: (Yahushua) Jacob though Judah is represented as the lion, at this time he will appear in the effeminate, riding upon ass’s colt which is a symbol of a beast of burden bring peaceful prosperity, the peaceful greatness of a nation, while the charger symbolizes warlike power. (When we return with Him Revelation 19:11) Yahushua not Yahuweh. Yahushua returns with a new name written upon His thigh Revelation 19:16
YAHUWEH.
Zebulon: will become a tribe of traders and great wealth, but the nations will come to them.
Issachar: is a strong and nimble worker who enjoys resting at his hearth. He works in order to gain leisure, (the farmer) considered a greater prize than great wealth (Zebulon) and dose not seek the glories of battle (Judah).
Dan and Gad: act as defenders of the people from attacks from without.
Asher: the most blessed and happy lives.
Naphtali: does not act on his own initiative but is quick to comprehend.
Joseph: noble in character, standing alone though two Ephraim (he the younger/USA?) and Manasseh (he the elder/England?)
Benjamin: a wolf that tears his prey to pieces. (Saul of Tarsus [Paul] was a Benjamite who wrote 1/3rd of the New Testament revealing the mysteries and power of God through Yahushua given to us by the Spirit, to destroy the enemies of the cross of Messiah.

Following is a comment from Samson R. Hirsch “The Pentateuch”
Genesis 49:26 The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.
Hirsch’s commentary: Judah and Joseph obviously represent the two focal points on which Jacob centered his prophetic vision, up to the time when the nations would grow dull with age, up to “the goal toward which the hills of the ages strive,” the most distant future. Indeed, throughout Scripture we see the name Joseph coupled with that of Judah. The terms “house of Joseph” and “house of Judah” are employed by the prophets with reference to the entire nation. And even for that still far-off future, tradition has a scion of Joseph’s stand side by side with the house of Judah as a precursor (forerunner) and companion; [Messiah the son of Joseph] and [Messiah the son of David]. The relationship between the two is not clear because it has not been revealed to us.
Messiah has come to Judah Yahushua lowly riding on the fowl of an ass. We are sons born out of time for that time ended when Messiah came. We are the inheritors as Ephraim and Manasseh to rule and reign with Judah.
Israel means to rule as God. We have been grafted into Israel to rule and reign the earth with Yahuweh by the blood of Yahushua, our obedience and faith.
We even today stand with Israel, the United States [picture of Ephraim] and England [picture of Manasseh] to honor and protect Gods promise against the world.
Think on this comparison while reading the later prophets on the end times. The picture of Ezekiel 17 is England and the US. The eagle is Yahushua the branches planted to spread his fruits are England and the US. This story was in reference to Babylon at the time. Ecclesiastes 1:9 These are types in the Word and remain consistent. Peter and Paul spread the Word to Babylon and than outward when they were rejected in Jerusalem.
Hirsch was a German Jewish scholar who lived from 1808-1888, with what I believe great in sight based on the Jewish thought, which is not far from our precepts and understanding of the word in the New Testament.
Father you have truly given Your Word, the oracles of God to the Jewish people to preserve them. Give us understanding through The Holy Spirit of Your Son which is divine influence, grace, that we may know Your prophecies unto edification, exaltation, and comfort.
The Blood of Your Son to cleanse us, faith in the resurrection unto eternal life, and sanctification by His Holy Spirit we say:
